| Eggcrate Louvers
Even
though eggcrate louvers do share a cellular nature with parabolic
louvers, there are fundamental differences. The cell walls of
parabolics are curved, the cell walls of eggcrate louvers are flat.
While the finish of the vast majority of parabolic louvers have a high
percentage of specular reflectance, eggcrate louvers have either a
diffuse finish, or are actually semi-transparent.
The
cell walls of eggcrate louvers will block the view into the luminaire
cavity at angles beyond the shielding angle. The reflectance of light
off of the diffuse finish, or passage of light through the translucent
cell walls provide a random distribution. Like lenses, eggcrate louvers
brighten the ceiling but do not provide the controlled distribution
required for visually critical tasks.
Eggcrate
Louvers are appropriate for areas where brightness control is not
critical. Large areas of ceiling can economically be covered to provide
a sense of lightness and space. Different styles of Eggcrate Louvers
are available to meet your particular needs and budget.
